Writing the One Act Historical Play

Product Description

Turn History into Literature

Literary cross-training is always a good way to build new writing muscles.  For some, playwriting seems old-fashioned, a genre of bygone times.  Yet, playwriting is a solid, ancient form with astrounding postmodern possibilities.  It is time re-awaken our old yearnings for theater!

Start Small

In this module, you write a one act play.  The fictional equivalent is that of composing a very concise short story.  Yet, this module requires the writer to be both an historian, and perhaps even, a journalist.  The student must draw the subject matter from history.

Consider Shakespeare

While he wrote longer works, he looked to history to inspire much of his work.  We can do the same.
