A love of the landscape--a fascination with the avant-garde--and a celebration of everyday people all characterize the history of art in the United States. In this course, we'll journey through the many developments of the American tradition, from the Colonial Period right up through the present day. Movements we explore willl include the Hudson River School, American Impressionism, the Ashcan School, the Naive Painters and Abstract Expressionism--among others. The finest American painters will be featured. Join us--to meet them all and see their work! Artists explored will include: Charles Burchfield, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sergent, Mary Cassatt, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, William Glackens, George Luks, Robert Henri, Everett Shinn, John French Sloan, Grant Wood, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Edwin Church, and Thomas Cole--among many others. THIS COURSE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE SPRING OF 2013
